Got a Tip?

‘Wedding Crashers 2’ Reportedly Falls Apart After Owen Wilson Signs On For Another Film

For years, it seemed as if a sequel to the massive R-rated comedy hit, “Wedding Crashers,” wasn’t going to happen. But then over the past six months or so, the buzz around the potential sequel built and built. Eventually, it seemed as if the stars aligned and “Wedding Crashers 2” was actually going to happen soon. Well, as the old saying goes, “Don’t count the Owen Wilsons before they ‘wowwww’” or some such.

According to a report from Puck, it seems as if everything was going well with “Wedding Crashers 2,” with filmmaker David Dobkin, as well as stars such as Vince Vaughn, Isla Fisher, Rachel McAdams, and Owen Wilson all set to return. But the report claims that right before the newest version of the script was about to be turned in, and with pre-production already seemingly about to begin, Owen Wilson pulled out.

Why would Owen Wilson pull out of “Wedding Crashers 2?” Well, apparently he went ahead and signed on for the Disney film, “Haunted Mansion,” and that conflicts with the window that would have worked for the comedy sequel. And while “Wedding Crashers 2” isn’t actually dead-dead, it does appear that the film is now years away as Wilson will segue from “Haunted Mansion” to Season 2 of “Loki,” while Vaughn also has a number of projects that he is probably going to begin working on at the same time.

All that to say, it doesn’t look like “Wedding Crashers 2” is going to happen anytime soon, like fans were led to believe. And as has been readily apparent from the past decade or so, there’s clearly no rush on the parts of Owen Wilson and other folks involved to get this film made ASAP. So, for the time being, the “Wedding Crashers” sequel looks to be another casualty of the dreaded scheduling conflicts.
