Selling the idea of a “What We Do in the Shadows” TV series is fairly easy. The truth is, if you enjoyed the film of the same name from Taika Waititi, then it should serve as no surprise that you’re going to be really interested in the upcoming FX series.
As seen in the first full trailer for the series, which debuts next month, “What We Do in the Shadows” is basically the film, but with a few new characters and some new adventures. The style of filmmaking and the writing is all basically the same. So, if you think Waititi is a genius, then you’re going to eat this up.

And if you haven’t seen the film, or know anything about the “Thor: Ragnarok” director, then you’re probably still going to think it’s funny to watch a hundreds-of-years-old vampire trying to grocery shop in a modern supermarket. And if that still isn’t enough to convince you, then watch out, because the trailer features the energy vampire Colin Robinson, who very well might be the standout of the footage and the scariest monster in the show (especially if you’ve lived that cubical life).
The series stars Kayvan Novak, Harvey Guillen, Natasia Demetriou, Matt Berry, and Mark Proksch. And yes, before you ask, Waititi and co-creator Jemaine Clement do provide some directing and writing assistance for this new FX series.
FX is scheduled to release the first episode of “What We Do in the Shadows” on March 27.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
Based on the feature film of the same name from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows is a documentary-style look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of four vampires who’ve “lived” together for hundreds of years. In Staten Island.
