Will Smith & David Gordon Green Prison-Set Cop Thriller ‘Supermax’ Adds ‘Rebel Ridge’ Actress AnnaSophia Robb As Co-Star

Will Smith and director David Gordon Green, who was behind the Blumhouse/Universal Pictures trilogy of “Halloween” films, are teaming up for a prison-set thriller titled “Supermax.” There is a big casting update for the pic at Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax, as they’ve found Smith’s co-star with “Rebel Ridge” actress AnnaSophia Robb.

That news hails from Deadline, as the gestating movie “Supermax” sees Robb in the role of Smith’s “young partner in the film as the two detectives enter the depths of a supermax prison to solve a mysterious murder.” The thriller’s script was penned by David Weil and David J. Rosen, known for recent genre-bending series such as “Hunters” and “Invasion.”

Robb played a young lawyer pulled into a deadly crooked-cop plot in Jeremy Saulnier‘s fantastic Netflix flick that featured a breakout role for Aaron Pierre (“Lanterns,” “Man of Tomorrow”) after replacing John Boyega, and she is also part of the cast of the new TIFF-bound Amazon MGM movie “I Play Rocky,” about the making of the sports drama starring Sly Stallone.

The Picture Company‘s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman produce “Supermax” alongside Smith and Adam Fishbach for Smith’s banner Westbrook. Screenwriters Weil and Rosen will executive produce alongside associate producer Natalie Laine Williams. Others among the producing team include Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, COO Thom Zadra, and SVP Spencer Ela, who will executive produce.

We’re curious who else will be recruited for other supporting parts in “Supermax,” as this sounds like a cool project and Green has been a capable filmmaker, able to juggle super-serious acclaimed dramas alongside comedies and other genres like horror.
