What does the future hold for the collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures concerning the “Spider-Man” franchise beyond the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“? Well, if new quotes from Kevin Feige end up coming to fruition, we might finally see live-action Miles Morales coming to the mainline MCU (teased back in “Homecoming” with Donald Glover playing Miles’ uncle Aaron/The Powler).
In an in-depth interview, Feige spoke to the Chinese outlet/account Keep An Eye On Hollywood/Watching Hollywood (via a post on Weibo and an English translation from Google Translate, so there might be some hiccups in the wording), where he talked-up the future of the studio’s relationship with Sony Pictures on the next 2-5 solo “Spider-Man” movies and even teased that they’re looking to use live-action Miles Morales once Sony is done with the animated “Spider-Verse” movies.

“One of the interesting things in this line of work is that we’re always dreaming and coming up with all kinds of ideas. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s a line where Electro [played by Jamie Foxx] says: ‘There must be a Black Spider-Man somewhere.’ Audiences around the world are thrilled because they know this might be a reference to Spider-Man Miles,” Feige said of the future of Miles in the MCU.
“The good news is that Sony has released the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film series, which are beloved and excellent, and “Beyond the Spider-Verse” will also be released next year. But yes, we undoubtedly have plans , and I think the live-action Spider-Man movies are destined to join Miles at some point after the Spider-Verse series ends. We have also been thinking about and discussing more Spider-Man adventure stories, regardless of the terms or contracts. Our [co-producer] Amy Pascal is already working on it, and we’ve already discussed in depth what the next two, three, four, or five Spider-Man movies might make.”
This sounds EXTREMELY promising that Marvel/Sony could be expanding their output together, especially after Sony head Tom Rothman confirmed they would be ending the Sonyverse after a string of critical and box-office failures (seemingly all wrapped up with “Venom 3” and “Kraven The Hunter” being the final movies in their villain-focused spinoffs). Rothman had been cautioning that overstatement of the genre was partly to blame, some genuine self-reflection that we can certainly get behind.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” heads to theaters on July 31, and we’ll have to see if it will be able to match or surpass the massive box office success of “No Way Home“(earned $1.9 billion) and if Tom Holland is going to be the actor that ends up portraying Peter Parker in those sequels, potentially rounding out a second trilogy.
