It’s been a little more than a month since it was announced that Prime Video was teaming up with Guy Ritchie to make a “Young Sherlock” series. But since the original announcement, things have been a little quiet. But not any longer, as we got the addition of a big name to the cast today.
According to Deadline, Colin Firth is set to star opposite Hero Fiennes Tiffin in Guy Ritchie’s “Young Sherlock” series. As the title suggests, “Young Sherlock” follows the story of, well, a young Sherlock Holmes, who is 19 and not quite as mature as you are used to seeing him. The series is said to be inspired by the “Young Sherlock” novels.
Firth is a legendary actor who has appeared in a number of massive projects. Most recently, he appeared in films such as “Empire of Light,” “Operation Mincemeat,” and “Mothering Sunday.” He’s also no stranger to TV, having recently starred in the limited series, “The Staircase.” Though his TV roles are more sporadic than his film work.
Firth joins a cast that already includes the aforementioned Fiennes Tiffin, as well as Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, and Natascha McElhone. In the series, Firth is expected to play Sir Bucephalus Hodge.
It’s unclear when we might see “Young Sherlock” debut on Prime Video. One thing is for sure, it feels as if momentum on this project is growing, so it could be coming sooner rather than later.
