Peter Jackson Working On A Secret Project For Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment

It’s been a half-decade since Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg‘s “The Adventures Of Tintin” hit the big screen, in what was supposed to be a trilogy launching franchise. However, the box office receipts weren’t quite as high as many had expected (the movie couldn’t even top $80 million domestic), and while promises were made that the other movies in the series would still get made, both Jackson and Spielberg moved on to other things. However, it seems they’ve stayed in touch and are now collaborating on a new project, one that will see Jackson returning behind the camera for the first time since his work on “The Hobbit” series.

In the new issue of New Zealand’s Time Out magazine, Spielberg revealed that Jackson was working on a new movie for Amblin Entertainment, and even more, that another ‘Tintin’ movie was still in the works.

“Peter was so busy with ‘The Hobbit’ that it took him away from ‘Tintin’ and he’s doing another film for my company now. It’s a secret, nobody knows about it. Then after that he’ll do ‘Tintin,'” Spielberg teased.

What project could it be? Let the speculation start. I would probably rule out any kind of tentpole since Jackson was clearly worn out after “The Hobbit,” and said he was sick of the “blockbuster bandwagon.” One possibility might be his long-developing WWII fighter plane project “The Dam Busters” which he had said a couple years back was a possibility for his next movie. However, he’s also stated a desire to make a smaller film on the scale of “Heavenly Creatures,” so it could be something that hasn’t yet been revealed in the press. Either way, it’s good to know Jackson has finally left Middle Earth and will be setting his talents on something else.

As for that second ‘Tintin’ movie, tentatively titled “Prisoner Of The Sun,” I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath on it happening, but maybe like “Pacific Rim,” the international receipts will be enough to get it greenlit.
