'28 Years Later': Jack O'Connell Joins The Cast Of Danny Boyle's Sequel

Sometimes, a film project comes together really quickly. That seems to be the case with the forthcoming “28 Years Later.” Prior to a few months ago, the film was more theoretical. Wouldn’t it be cool if it happened? Now, not only is it happening, but it’s the start of a new trilogy, we have two major directors attached, and the cast is really incredible, thus far. Now, “28 Years Later” might be one of our most anticipated films.

Adding to that anticipation is the latest casting, via Deadline, with Jack O’Connell joining the project. No word on who he might play in the film, but the report claims that he’ll serve as a supporting cast member in the first film before taking over as a lead in the second film in the trilogy. O’Connell is probably best known for films such as “Unbroken,” “Seberg,” and “Ferrari.” He also co-stars in the upcoming musical biopic, “Back to Black.”

Plot details are scarce, but “28 Years Later” is set to serve as a direct sequel to “28 Days Later.” A sequel, “28 Weeks Later,” was already made years ago, but Alex Garland and Danny Boyle, the writer and director of the original, respectively, were only EPs on that feature. So, it would appear the duo are ready to make a “true” sequel with this upcoming trilogy of films.

Again, there’s no word on what the story of “28 Years Later” will look like. What we do know is that Alex Garland and Danny Boyle are spearheading the new trilogy, with the latter directing the first film. “Candyman” and “The Marvels” filmmaker Nia DaCosta is on board to direct the second film, which is going to shoot back-to-back with the first. And the cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes.
