Hollywood wasn’t ready for Marlee Matlin in 1987, when she came out of nowhere to become the first deaf actress to win an Academy Award. But that’s just the beginning of Matlin’s story, and Shoshanna Stern‘s new documentary “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore” covers it all.
And as the doc’s next screening at the Tribeca Film Festival approaches, Kino Lorber has a new trailer available to watch. “Not Alone Anymore” traces Matlin’s entire career: from her 1987 Oscar win for “Children Of A Lesser God” opposite William Hurt, to her standout role on “The West Wing,” to her next Oscar win for “CODA” and her work as an author and activist.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Marlee Martin: Not Alone Anymore,” courtesy of Kino Lorber:

“Not Alone Anymore” had its world premiere earlier this year at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it received high marks from critics. The Playlist’s review praised the film, and called it “one [that] sits in stark contrast to its contemporaries.”
