Two years ago, Babak Anvari delivered the terrifically atmospheric and scary “Under The Shadow.” A little unfairly, the movie didn’t quite garner the same attention as other new wave horror movies like “The Babadook,” “The Witch,” or “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night,” but it announced the arrival of a talent that couldn’t be ignored. Well, Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna were certainly paying attention as they’ve signed up the filmmaker for an intriguing new project.
Armie Hammer, fresh off the critically adored “Call Me By Your Name,” has signed up to star in an untitled thriller that will be written and directed by Anvari. While the movie has no name to be called by just yet (I hope you appreciated what I did there), the story have been revealed. The plot will follow a New Orleans bartender who starts to experiencing disturbing and inexplicable events after he picks up a phone left at the bar. We’re not talking about low battery power, bro.
Annapurna are so keen on the movie, they’ve not only put it on the fast track, there’s already a release date — March 29, 2019. That will be two weeks after Jordan Peele drops his new social thriller, and the same weekend as Tim Burton‘s “Dumbo.” [Variety]
