Got a Tip?

Tom Holland Has Revealed The Title Of The ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel

Kevin Feige should get the cast of “Avengers: Infinity War” T-shirts that read, “loose lips sink ships.” First you had Mark Ruffalo spoiling the Thanos massacre months early (fortunately for Marvel no one noticed), and then you had the MCU’s Spider-Man, Tom Holland, tell an audience that had yet to see ‘Infinity War,’ that his character was dead.

He’s done it again. Sort of. In a nod to his mistakes, Holland has released a kind of mock clip on Instagram talking about the upcoming sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” revealing that the screenplay is done. He then “accidentally” unveils the name of the project in the process: “Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Marvel doesn’t leave anything to chance. This is likely no slip-up, and perhaps it’s a fun way to steal some thunder from the upcoming Comic-Con in San Diego (Marvel will be absent from the festivities next year). Is the title legit? While it’s not confirmed, ‘Far From Home’ seems authentic. Marvel President Kevin Feige has already talked about the sequel and the fact that it would be set abroad.

“We start filming early July,” Feige said in April. “We film in London. We shot the first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London, but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe.”

But wait, how is there a Spider-Man sequel when the character “died” in ‘Infinity War’ in one of the movie’s most heartbreaking scenes. Well, obviously “Avengers 4” is coming, and it is going to resurrect its universe, so we essentially know that many deaths—including those of “Black Panther” and the “Guardians Of The Galaxy”—won’t be permanent because new movies will be forthcoming.

Whether “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is set before the events of ‘Infinity War’ is unclear, but thanks to Twitter, we know that “Ant-Man And The Wasp” definitely will be (and features ‘Infinity War’-connected post-credit sequences). And what about Tom Holland’s future in the Sony Spider-Man universe, where the character will ultimately live after three Marvel solo films (and ‘Avengers’ movies)? “Venom” director Ruben Fleischer recently hinted that we might see Holland in his film come the fall. We shall see. Stay tuned for confirmation on ‘Far From Home.’ Presumably, it’s coming soon.

06.25.18 Update: Kevin Feige has confirmed the title of the film. “[It’s] similar [to Spider-Man: Homecoming]. I won’t say what the meanings are, but we enjoy that title because, like Homecoming, it is full of alternate meaning,” he told Cinemablend this weekend. “And we liked continuing the ‘Home’ thing, with the little Spidey symbol in the ‘Home.'”
