Some Bonds May Break You. BBC and HBO Max are teaming up on the new dramatic sibling drama limited series “Half Man” that hails from Emmy-winner Richard Gadd, the creative/star behind the wildly compelling and dark stalker series “Baby Reindeer” that grew into a viewership bonanza for Netflix.
A first-look trailer for Gadd’s new project, “Half Man,” has made its way online as the show is set to debut later this month. It will focus on two estranged brothers (not by blood, bonded by their mothers) spanning nearly 40 years, going back to the 1980s and into the present day, exploring their complicated relationship.

The main cast of the new series includes Gadd, Jamie Bell, Stuart Campbell, Mitchell Robertson, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, Charlotte Blackwood, and Calum Manchip.

An official logline for the new show via HBO Max:
When Niall’s estranged “brother” Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives. Spanning almost 40 years from the 1980s to the present day, Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell portray Niall (Robertson) and Ruben (Campbell) in their younger years, in a series that explores the highs and lows of Ruben and Niall’s relationship, from meeting them as troubled teenagers to witnessing their falling out as adults – with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way. The series will capture the wild energy of a changing city – a changing world, even – and plumb the depths of what it means to be a man.
“Half Man” is created, written, and executive-produced by Gadd with the support of Screen Scotland, and directed by Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck. It hails from Mam Tor Productions (a Banijay UK company) for the BBC, BBC Scotland, and HBO.
Of course, given the massive success of “Baby Reindeer,” there is a rather large expectation on “Half Man” to live up to the hype of that first outing for Gadd. Take a look at that newly released trailer for “Half Man” below, as the series will debut in the U.S. on April 23.
