Between new and returning series, April has a lot to offer for television. While it’s become expected to be overloaded by new releases, it’s still overwhelming to see just how many series are coming up, not including the ones still in the midst of their seasons
—such as a conversation starter “The Pitt.”
Streaming services continue to lead the charge, with some of the biggest releases heading to platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+. Also of note are the endings of major series such as the superhero satire “The Boys” and the teen drama “Euphoria,” the latter of which has launched the careers of many rising stars.

Elsewhere, there’s the sequel series to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” led by “One Battle After Another” star Chase Infiniti, which shows the dystopian world through the eyes of a teenager. Those easily moved by nostalgia-based series should tune into the four-episode mini-series, “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.” There’s plenty more for original series as well, from comedy horror tales with Matthew Rhys to the terrors of Silicon Valley. Here’s what you should tune into this April.
“Your Friends & Neighbors”
Jon Hamm returns for the second season of the Apple TV+ series “Your Friends & Neighbors.” Hamm stars as Coop, a former New York hedge-fund manager who resorts to criminal means to maintain his and his family’s lifestyle. Season two follows the idealized vision of a suburban dream as it continues to crack down the middle. Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Gravitt, and Donovan Colan all star.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres April 3 on Apple TV+.
“The Boys”
The hyper-violent superhero series “The Boys,” created by Eric Kripke, returns for its fifth and final season. The returning cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chase Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and more, as the season finds the world run by Homelander, opposed only by a resistance led by Annie/Starlight. Things change, however, with the news of a virus that could wipe out anyone with powers.
Release Date: Season 5 premieres April 8 on Prime Video.
“Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord”
Before the release of “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” writer and showrunner Dave Filoni returns again to the long-lasting world of “Star Wars” with the animated series, “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.” Taking place after the events of the series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (also from Filoni), the series follows the former Sith lord Maul during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Sam Witwer reprises his role as Maul, with Gideon Adlon, Wagner Moura, and Richard Ayoade also joining.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres April 6 on Disney+.
“The Testaments”
Based on the 2019 novel by Margaret Atwood, “The Testaments” works as a continuation and spin-off of the long-running series, “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Taking place years following the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the series follows two teenagers, Agnes and Daisy, as they experience life behind the gilded cage of Gilead while attending an elite preparatory school for future wives of powerful commanders. Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Mattea Conforti, and Rowan Blanchard all star, along with the returning Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia.
Release Date: The series premieres April 8 on Hulu.
“The Miniature Wife”
Tackling marital issues in a new, science-fiction way, “The Miniature Wife” stars Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen as a married couple fighting for power. The catch? A device the husband created has just shrunk the wife to just six inches tall. Created by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner and based on the book of the same name, the series also stars Zoe Lister-Jones, Sofia Rosinsky, O-T Fagbenle, and Sian Clifford.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres April 9 on Peacock.
