Is “Twilight” so set to make a bundle of cash that Summit Entertainment is already green-lighting a sequel? As Niki Finke at Deadline Hollywood says, “When your soundtrack isn’t even completed much less released (not until November 4th), yet it’s already in the Top 5 Best-Selling Albums on Amazon based on pre-sales alone, you know you have a hit.”
Considering how many books there are in the series and considering how the tween-goth vampire series has ignited the shit out of frenzied fans, it stood to reason there would be sequels from the get-go.
So stating the obvious, Summit Entertainment’s CEO Rob Friedman is reportedly already readying the sequel — even though film doesn’t come out until November 21. We were feeling a little skeptical that the film would do uber-gangbusters as maybe it would only appeal to a devoted, but relatively small core of audiences (female teens and no adults aside from single moms), but Finke makes some great points. “Twilight” has the fastest selling licensed merchandise since “Harry Potter.” Watch out.
Ok, so it’ll probably be huge, but whatever. If we catch a screening we do, if we don’t we don’t. More power to director Catherine Hardwicke who has done some good work in the past. Hopefully they’ll keep her onboard or at least the soon-to-be success of the film will allow her other opportunities.
