‘Black Phone 2’ Trailer: Ethan Hawke’s The Grabber Returns From The Grave In Snowy Sequel

Dead is just a word. Writer/director Scott Derrickson is back with a sequel to his horror flick “Black Phone” as “Black Phone 2” will see Ethan Hawke‘s killer character, The Grabber, returning from the grave to terrify Mason Thames‘ Finn and his sister, as the Blumhouse project is heading to theaters on October 17.

Universal Pictures, which is distributing the movie, has sent over a new trailer to share and gives audiences a first look at what to expect from “Black Phone 2.” One of the biggest standouts in the footage is the striking old-school visual look, making the film stand out in the age of modern horror.

Madeleine McGraw plays Finn’s sister, Gwen, The Grabber’s new target, with the rest of the cast featuring Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Arianna Rivas.

Derrickson also co-wrote the sequel’s script with longtime collaborator C. Robert Cargill, which is based on characters created by author Joe Hill, son of Stephen King.

An official synopsis for “Black Phone 2” courtesy of Universal:

Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (McGraw). As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.
