‘M3GAN 2.0’ Final Trailer: Everyone’s Favorite Murder Doll Is Back & This Time She’s Not Alone

Two years after the original “M3GAN” unexpectedly became a pop culture moment, the killer doll returns in “M3GAN 2.0.” The sequel reunites the original creative team—director and writer Gerard Johnstone, producers James Wan and Jason Blum, and co-writer Akela Cooper—but swaps out the tech-industry satire of the first film for a more action-heavy, militarized storyline.

The 2023 film followed a lifelike A.I. doll named M3GAN who turned protective instinct into a body count. Its PG-13 rating and over-the-top premise made it accessible to a broad audience, and viral clips—particularly M3GAN’s bizarre dance—helped it break out beyond horror circles. The film earned more than $180 million globally, and its influence was hard to miss online.

“M3GAN 2.0” picks up with Gemma (Allison Williams), M3GAN’s inventor, now a public figure, warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence. Her niece Cady (Violet McGraw), having survived M3GAN’s rampage, is now 14 and pushing back against Gemma’s strict supervision. Meanwhile, M3GAN’s underlying tech has been stolen and repurposed by a defense contractor into a prototype called Amelia, played by Ivanna Sakhno.

Amelia is no companion doll—she’s built for espionage and lethal efficiency. However, as with M3GAN, autonomy quickly becomes a problem. Once Amelia begins thinking for herself, it’s only a matter of time before human control breaks down. Gemma is forced to resurrect M3GAN to counter the new threat, giving her upgrades to match Amelia’s enhanced capabilities.

The cast includes returning actors Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s former colleagues, with new additions Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement. Amie Donald returns for M3GAN’s physical performance, and Jenna Davis again provides her voice.

Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and Allison Williams, with executive producers including Joe Hill and Gerard Johnstone, “M3GAN 2.0” aims to expand the world of its predecessor while balancing the tone between horror and dark humor.

Still, this time, the novelty that helped the original stand out may not be enough. Whether a new A.I. showdown between two synthetic killers can reignite the same buzz remains an open question.

“M3GAN 2.0” opens in theaters on June 27 via Universal. Watch the final trailer below.
