Over the weekend, a trailer for Michael C. Hall‘s “Dexter: Resurrection” made its way online and the new series coming this summer to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME sees the killer of killers returning as the latest continuation series takes place after the events of “Dexter: New Blood,” which ended with Dexter being shot in the chest.
The star-studded cast of returning and new actors joining Hall includes David Zayas, James Remar, Jack Alcott, John Lithgow, Jimmy Smits, Neil Patrick Harris as Lowell, Krysten Ritter as Mia, Eric Stonestreet as Al, David Dastmalchian as Gareth, Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage will star as the show’s main villain Leon Prater, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera.
If you’re not familiar with the original run of “Dexter,” Hall plays a blood splatter expert who works for the Miami Police Department and moonlights as a serial killer, who focuses on taking out other serial killers that have been able to evade law enforcement and justice.
In the original series, Dexter consistently speaks with his late adoptive detective father, played by Remar, who helps him navigate his murder spree and avoid getting caught by police. That plot device has allowed characters who have been killed and died in the past to return.
Paramount+ has provided the following synopsis for the new series:
A continuation of ‘Dexter: New Blood,’ takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined—and that the only way out is together.
