As if the "offer story" wasn't bad enough, the "testing" or "reading for" stories have taken that to a lower standard. And listen, we get it. We've run those things before because a peek behind the curtain is interesting, particularly for high profile projects and it's a window into what direction studios are looking to take a project. But confirming offer stories? That seems kind of ridiculously excessive, but it's also a slow news week, so here we are.
First up, as you might remember Aaron Sorkin was being sought by Sony to write the Steve Jobs biopic they're developing based on Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography.Well, E! caught up with "The Social Network" writer at the P.S. Arts Express Yourself 2011 event in Santa Monica and he breathtakingly revealed, that he's thinking about it.
"Sony has asked me to write the movie and it's something I'm strongly considering," he said adding, "Right now I'm just in the thinking-about-it stages. It's a really big movie and it's going to be a great movie no matter who writes it."
On to two remakes now, which each are a source of contention among hardcore manga/anime fans. First up, Colin Firth was recently said to be offered the villain role in Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake. Collider caught up with the actor during press for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" where he revealed, “Well I don’t like to discuss things which are in a kind of early stage of—we’re not that closely acquainted with things, but yeah there has been an approach about Oldboy. No decisions have been made yet by anybody.” Scintillating.
Meanwhile, Collider also chatted with Gary Oldman on that same press tour of duty, and when asked about the possibility of starring in "Akira" he simply said, “Rumor. They’ve approached me, we’ve talked about it, nothing has been confirmed.”
But one thing we do know that Oldman will be in is next summer's "The Dark Knight Rises," and MTV tried to muscle out some details from the actor who already knows how to stay tight lipped. "I will say this: There’s a conclusion. He touches on the first [film] and weaves it in,” he said, stating what was already known. “It resolves. I think it’s a trilogy. It’s just great. The story is terrific. It is just epic."
