With the whole Occupy Wall Street thing touching on pop culture in fits and starts (it recently served as a pretty poor subplot during the last season of “The Newsroom“), it was only a matter of time before it became the central focus of a movie or series. And it’s the latter, where an acclaimed filmmaker will get dive deep into the subject.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is the latest to join the exodus of talent to TV, teaming with “House Of Cards” producers Media Rights Capital for the fairly obviously titled “1%.” And goals are the same as that political drama, with Inarritu being the magnetizing force that will hopefully lure some big name players. As for plot details? None yet, but Inarritu will direct and THR notes “it will deal with wealth and its distribution,” as you might have already guessed. And while this is all fine and good, and we’re still mostly stoked about Inarritu’s next feature.
Let’s not forget he’s got “Birdman” coming, his ensemble comedy featuring Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton and Andrea Riseborough about an actor who once played an iconic superhero, who mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glories, but his efforts to return to the spotlight are threatened by the egotistical leading actor of the play, with whom he butts heads. That cast? That premise? It’s way up on our list for 2014.
