The Oscars finally landed on a host with the announcement of Kevin Hart taking the gig yesterday and, now, with a month and a day to the ceremony the Golden Globes finally have their own emcees. Â Yes, that’s right, it’s a two-fer again for the night that the worlds of film and television find a way to come together as one. Â Your 2018 Golden Globe Awards host is the sort of surprise teaming of Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh.

In September, Samberg and Oh presented the Emmy for Best Direction of a Comedy Series and they showed unexpected comedic chemistry. Â Samberg, a “Saturday Night Live” veteran, previously earned kudos for hosting the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards and has been a frequent participant on that pre-Oscars staple in the years since. Â Oh, an Emmy nominee and likely Golden Globe nominee tomorrow for “Killing Eve,” hosted the 28th Genie Awards, Canada’s version of the Oscars, in 2008.
Each actor has a positive history with the HFPA. Â Oh won a Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film Golden Globe in 2006 for “Grey’s Anatomy.” Samberg, on the other hand, won the Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy statue in 2014 for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” While Oh has no connection to NBC, Samberg not only starred on “SNL,” but “Brooklyn” recently switched networks to the Peacock this fall.
The 47-year-old Oh will also make history as the first host of Asian decent for a major awards program.
Last year’s host was NBC late-night host Seth Meyers whose telecast found an audience of 18.7 million viewers down slightly from 2016 when Jimmy Fallon hosted. The Globes most recent rating peak occurred when Tina Fey and Amy Pohler hosted in 2014 and the show delivered an audience of 20.9 million.
The nominations for the 76th Golden Globes will be announced tomorrow morning beginning at 5:15 AM PT, 8:15 AM ET.
The 76th Golden Globes will air live on Jan. 6 beginning at 5 PM PT, 8 PM ET on NBC.
