'The Standoff At Sparrow Creek' Trailer: TIFF Standout Is A Tense, Suspenseful Mystery With Tarantino Flair

While everyone has been focused on awards season fervor, a few trailers of festival fare has slipped through the cracks. But that’s not the case with the Toronto International Film Festival selection “The Standoff At Sparrow Creek.”

The trailer is two full minutes of suspense that never really lets up. A take on the ‘whodunit’ sub-genre, the darkness of the frame gels with the story. ‘Sparrow Creek’ premiered at this past year’s TIFF, and we were able to see it. You can read our review here. The film is directed and written by Henry Dunham. Marking his official feature-length directorial debut, Dunham’s previous work, as with many filmmakers began with short film.

As a relative newcomer himself, Dunham has assembled a cast of a few familiar faces in the ensemble. The film stars James Badge DalePatrick Fischler, and Brian Geraghty, among others. The actors’ credits are mainly due to smaller roles in film and television. But with ‘Sparrow Creek,’ each actor gets the opportunity to fully flourish on screen. If you’re seeking a thriller outside of the busyness of awards season, then “The Standoff At Sparrow Creek” may be your ticket.

The film will hit theaters and be made available on VOD and Digital  January 18.

After a mass shooting at a police funeral, reclusive ex-cop Gannon finds himself unwittingly forced out of retirement when he realizes that the killer belongs to the same militia he joined after quitting the force. Understanding that the shooting could set off a chain reaction of copycat violence across the country, Gannon quarantines his fellow militiamen in the remote lumber mill they call their headquarters. There, he sets about a series of grueling interrogations, intent on ferreting out the killer and turning him over to the authorities to prevent further bloodshed.
