Got a Tip?

Ang Lee Directing ‘Life Of Pi’ Adaptation

The adaptation of Yann Martel’s 2001 fantasy novel du jour, “Life of Pi” has found a new director willing to take on the project. Ang Lee (“Brokeback Mountain” “Lust, Caution”) has been hired by Fox 2000 to direct an adaptation of the novel.

Previously, the project saw M. Night Shyamalan on board to direct, but it fell through when he left at the last moment to craft one of his groundbreaking original scripts. Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurent of “Amelie” fame were also attached at one point. With Lee at the helm will come a new, revised script, which will be penned by a yet unnamed scribe.

The book follows an Indian youth who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger.

Lee’s latest film “Taking Woodstock” which stars Demetri Martin is set for an August 14th release.
