Filmmaker Ari Aster‘s next feature film for A24, “Disappointment Blvd.,” keeps growing and growing with a stellar and unusual cast. Deadline has revealed a handful of new names that have joined the project that is filming in Montreal. The wave of casting additions to the Aster pic includes Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Devs,” “Manchester By The Sea,” “Dune“), French actor Denis Ménochet (“Inglourious Basterds“), Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini (“The Many Saints of Newark“), and Zoe Lister-Jones (“Band-Aid“).
They join other previously announced cast members such as Nathan Lane, Pattie Lupone, Amy Ryan, and Kylie Rogers.
Production is taking place in Montreal and should be completed sometime in October. It’s assumed that a theatrical release will be set for 2022, given its shooting and post-production schedule. We shouldn’t be terribly shocked if they end up putting “Disappointment Blvd.” through the festival circuit next year before assigning an awards-friendly spot in the fall/winter.
Aster is coming off two successful horror entries, “Hereditary,” the Swedish-set “Midsommar,” and he recently enlisted Pultizer Prize-winning playwright Michael R. Jackson to write an upcoming, untitled horror film. Currently, it’s unclear if “Disappointment Blvd.” is even a horror movie, given many of the actors in his new ensemble skew towards comedy. Aster had also been talking up a “nightmare comedy” in recent years, which means it could potentially be “Disappointment Blvd.”
