Ari Aster's 'Disappointment Blvd' Enlists Amy Ryan, Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane & Kylie Rogers To Star Opposite Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix is considered a rarity in Hollywood, as he started out working as a child to become one of the top actors in his generation, recently winning the Best Actor Oscar for his fantastic performance in Todd Phillips‘ “Joker” in 2020. That success was only heightened as the film made on a modest budget of $55 million became a billion-dollar box office hit and certainly makes the actor notable to international audiences to a new level.

In the wake of “Joker,” Phoenix seemingly had his pick of future films and his next feature film will be writer/director Ari Aster‘s follow-up to his Swedish-set thriller “Midsommar,” which happens to be another A24 project titled, “Disappointment Blvd.”

We finally have some update casting news, as Deadline reports that Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone“), Nathan Lane (“The Producers“), Patti LuPone (“Hollywood,” “Last Christmas“), and teenage actress Kylie Rogers (“Yellow Stone,” “Cheaper By The Dozen“) will be joining Phoenix. It’s certainly a mix of actors you automatically wouldn’t think Aster would pursue but interesting choices nonetheless. 

Written and directed by Aster, the film is described as being “a decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” The assumption being that Joaquin Phoenix will be playing the successful entrepreneur. Filming on “Disappointment Blvd” will take place this summer in Montreal and is expected to complete principal photography by October. Aster has hired Oscar-nominated production designer Fiona Crombie, who previously worked on “The Favourite” and is known for her extravagant sets.

The pic is said to be heading to the Cannes Film Market and with an exciting cast tapped for his third feature film, we shouldn’t be shocked if there happens to be a bidding war to buy the distribution rights. 

Other films in various stages of development are Ridley Scott‘s Neopleon epic “Kitbag” that will reportedly co-star Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve,” “The Last Duel“) at Apple and the newly announced “Polaris” from director Lynne Ramsey
