How fast things can change. It was only last fall when Arnold Schwarzenegger was playing it cool and somewhat dismissive regarding his future in “The Terminator” franchise, saying: “I think (producer) Megan Ellison owns the rights to ‘Terminator 16,’ or whatever it is. They have been trying to put a script together but I’ve not seen it, so I’ve no idea. There’s nothing on the drawing board at this point. Nothing on the plan.” Well, less than a year later, he’s feeling much more optimistic about things.
Speaking with devotees The Arnold Fans, he revealed: “I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January.” While this ordinarily might seem like a bit of wishful thinking, especially for a franchise that has hobbled along, trying to get another installment made, it was earlier this week that news came that Paramount was snapping up the distribution rights to the Annapurna produced picture, and Arnie’s update suggests that the wheels are moving on this in a very real way. Maybe that script from Laeta Kalogridis (“Avatar” executive producer, “Shutter Island” writer) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry,” “Dracula 2000“) is great. But lest you think that’s the only character Schwarz is revisiting, guess again…
“I’m getting the script in two weeks from now about the sequel to ‘Twins,’ which will be called ‘Triplets,'” he said of the movie that might find his pairing with Danny DeVito boosted into a trio with Eddie Murphy — Josh Gad is co-writing the script. And no, that’s not all.
“I’m also going to do King Conan,” he said, reminding everyone of that new Conan movie that’s brewing in which he’ll play the lead, obviously now aged.
It’s certainly a lot on the plate for the 65-year-old, but it seems he’s determined to give all of these iconic characters one last hurrah before his body really can’t take it anymore. But where the fuck is our “Kindergarten Cop 2“? C’mon Arnie….. [via Movies]
