While the next small screen MCU adventures are “Ironheart” and “Wonder Man,” the studio is gearing up for their “Vision” spinoff series starring Paul Bettany, taking up events after “WandaVision.”
There has been quite the casting update for “Vision” as Deadline has confirmed that actress T’Nia Miller (“Foundation,” “Fall of The House of Usher”) has been hired for the meaty role of Jocasta, which could see her making the jump to feature films (potentially the upcoming “Avengers” movies given her comic book connections).
The Disney+ show is expected to explore multiple angles concerning artificial intelligence, while Vision has been reactivated as a weapon of the U.S. government.
If you’re not familiar, Jocasta is linked to The Pyms (Hank Pym also created Ultron, but that was altered for the MCU) and is another sentient comic book android that first showed up in 1977. Like Vision’s MCU origin from “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Jocasta is the creation of Ultron, only to defy his villainous ways (and romantic plans) and become a heroic figure, eventually joining the ranks of the Avengers and becoming a teacher at Avengers Academy.
She won’t just be joining Bettany, as James Spader back in the role of Ultron, Todd Stashwick, Ruaridh Mollica, and we’ll also see Faran Tahir from the original “Iron Man” returning to the MCU as The Ten Rings member Raza (will we see his connections to Wenwu and the “Shang-Chi” side of things?).
“Vision” has Terry Matalas (“Star Trek: Picard”) set as the showrunner, and is expected to be filming in the United Kingdom, making it easier to shoot scenes with actors for the new “Avengers” films.
However, while Miller is said to be a series lead, we’re not entirely sure Jacosta will be a comic-accurate version and could easily start as an antagonist given her Ultron origins. This won’t be the first big Ultron revival, as we saw non-dangerous Ultron “drones” in Earth-838 from “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.”
