Another MCU veteran is officially in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Variety reports that Kathryn Newton will return in the Russo Bros.‘ upcoming blockbuster as Cassie Lang. Newton took over the role of Scott Lang’s daughter in 2023’s “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania,” so this is just her second Marvel role. Still, while it’s a minor character, it’s yet another part of the film’s ever-enlarging ensemble. The question at this point is more like: will any MCU characters not come back for “Doomsday”?
Newton announced her return on Instagram earlier today, unpacking a box with a director’s chair with her name on the back and the film’s logo on the front. That’s a cheeky callback to how Marvel Studios first announced many of the cast of “Doomsday” last year. However, there’s a catch to Newton’s reveal: the chair she boxes is very small. “Tiny because Cassie Lang get tiny,” Newton teases, a hint that her character may join Paul Rudd‘s in shrinking herself in the Avenger’s quest to stave off Doctor Doom.
Of course, those who attended CinemaCon yesterday already know Newton was back as Cassie, because a scene of her and Rudd’s Lang appears briefly in the new “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer that premiered there yesterday. But it’s another name for the lengthy cast sheet, nonetheless. “Doomsday” also stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Channing Tatum, among many, many (many) others.
Newton adds “Avengers: Doomsday” to a list of 2026 theatrical releases that includes “Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come” and the thriller “DreamQuil,” which just had its world premiere at SXSW last month. Other upcoming titles for the actress include “The Devil’s Mouth,” “Samo Lives,” and “White Elephant.” Stay tuned if any of those three also reach audiences this year.
“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters on December 18. And don’t worry, that new ComicCon trailer for the film should reach YouTube very soon.
