'Blindspotting' Trailer With 'Hamilton' Star Daveed Diggs Is Explosive And Topical

Daveed Diggs is best known for his incredible rapping skills after being featured as one of the original cast members of Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s “Hamilton.” Diggs ability to mix words and rhymes is put to use in the new trailer for the collaborative film, “Blindspotting.”

“Blindspotting” debuted at Sundance Film Festival this past January and was purchased by Lionsgate for distribution following its successful run. The trailer starts out with an air of calm and a tinge of recklessness. But, like in all trailers, we should not be lead to assume anything. The film will, without a doubt, spark an already national conversation about race relations and excessive force by police. But Diggs and collaborator Rafael Casal bring their own style to the feature. Courtroom scenes with neon lights, lines turned into rhymes, and at the center of it all, Diggs’s character confronting the internal struggle of a national problem.

The film is loaded with social commentary on gentrification and the justice system, among other sensitive topics. The execution looks stylish and rapid. Under the direction of Carlos López Estrada, there’s remains a palpable intensity that, when it hits you, doesn’t leave. We had the opportunity to see the film at Sundance, here’s a sampling of what we praised the film, saying, “Yes, you’ll likely leave the theater blown away by Casal and Diggs’ considerable talent, but its Estrada’s vision that will haunt you. He’s not only one to watch, he’s a director you should be celebrating as a new cinematic auteur. Can’t give much higher praise than that.”

“Blindspotting” will hit select cities on July 20, here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Lifelong friends Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal co-wrote and star in this timely and wildly entertaining story about the intersection of race and class set against the backdrop of a rapidly gentrifying Oakland.
