It was hard to miss Bradley Cooper’s presence at the Super Bowl over the weekend, and the noted Philadelphia Eagles fan (who must be thrilled his team won the game on Sunday) is dishing some new details to a sports podcast about his next directorial effort, “Is This Thing On?”

Post-Super Bowl, Cooper went on ESPN’s infamous podcast “The Pat McAfee Show” and shared that actress Laura Dern (“A Marriage Story”) has been added to the cast of the new film. Not only that, but the actor-turned-director has also joined the union (assumed to be the cinematographers’ division at IATSE) to become a B camera operator, as it sounds like he’s aiming to learn crew positions while shooting the Hollywood-set comedy.
“I just joined the union, yeah,” Cooper told the “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday. “I’ll operate the camera, which I’m very excited about because we did some stuff. We went down to Chinatown, and yeah, it’s been amazing…We start in two weeks, so it’s kind of crazy.”
Cooper co-wrote “Is This Thing On?” with Canadian comedian Will Arnet (“Arrested Development”), who is set in the lead role.
However, it’s unclear what that means for Emily Blunt, who had been previously mentioned as participating but might have exited (we’re just speculating here) to focus on that new Steven Spielberg genre film co-starring with Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor (“Challengers”).
A release date for “Is This Thing On?” has yet to be announced by Searchlight Pictures, but given the positive reception for “A Star Is Born” and “Maestro,” the new project will undoubtedly be on the radar to debut in the festival circuit potentially.
