'Challengers': Zendaya To Team Up With Luca Guadagnino On A New Tennis Drama

From her early work in kids programming to now being one of the most recognizable stars on the planet, the world seems to have fully embraced Zendaya for years now. And her star is only growing, as she appears in bigger and more respected projects. Now, it appears the actress is ready to collaborate with one of the most acclaimed filmmakers on the planet, Luca Guadagnino in a new film, “Challengers.”

According to a report from Puck, it appears Luca Guadagnino is working on a new film titled “Challengers,” about the world of tennis. Not only that, but we already know who is going to be his leading lady, as the report claims Zendaya will be scoring a massive payday (between $11 million and $13 million) to lead the cast of the film. Zendaya’s ‘Spider-Man’ producer, Amy Pascal, is on board to produce this film as well.

As mentioned, Zendaya is on a bit of a roll over the past year, with performances in “Dune,” “Euphoria” Season 2, and of course, the record-breaking “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” She’s positioned herself as one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and combined with the abilities of Guadagnino, “Challengers” could be something special.

Guadagnino is a very busy filmmaker right now. Not only is he wrapping up work on his new film, “Bones & All,” which stars Zendaya’s “Dune” co-star Timothee Chalamet, but the filmmaker has a number of other projects in various stages of development. Most recently, it was announced that the director is expected to work with Rooney Mara on a new biopic about Audrey Hepburn. In addition, he’s also been attached to a remake of “Brideshead Revisited.” However, that film might be a bit on the backburner.

According to an interview in Irish Times with Andrew Garfield, one of the would-be stars of Guadagnino’s version of “Brideshead Revisited,” the film isn’t as guaranteed as we might have believed before.

“It’s a matter of time and schedule, and financing and all that stuff,” he said about the possibility of the film getting made.

Garfield is expected to join a cast that includes Joe Alwyn, Rooney Mara, and Cate Blanchett. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that could be the plan for much longer, considering how Guadagnino keeps filling up his schedule with other projects. We’ll just have to wait and see.
