An official logline for the new horror film from Sony:

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which originally debuted back in 1997, was part of a wave of modern slasher horror films that came out after Wes Craven‘s subversive hit “Scream,” which banked hard on casting extremely popular young/rising stars from across film and television. The original cast included Sarah Michelle Gellar (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), who would go on to appear in “Scream 2” a few months later.

It would go on to spawn a sequel, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” a year later, bringing back “The Fisherman” killer, a direct-to-video standalone flick, and a series version at Amazon Prime Video in 2021.
