While neither director James Watkins or actor Daniel Radcliffe returned for the forthcoming sequel “The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death,” it’s clear the pair got on well making the horror movie hit. And now, they’re going to try and conjure up some cinematic thrills in an entirely different way.
Watkins and Radcliffe are teaming up for the Olympic drama “Gold,” and they’re tackling a true life story that featured no shortage of drama. Based on the book “The Perfect Distance“ by Pat Butcher, and adapted by Simon Beaufoy (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire“), the movie will tell the story of the rivalry between British runner Sebastian Coe (to be played by Radcliffe) and his teammate Steve Ovett, as they prepare for the 1980 Olympic Games. So, “Rush” but with feet? Here’s the Amazon book synopsis:
Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe presided over the golden era of British athletics. Between them they won three Olympic gold medals, two silvers, one bronze, and broke a total of twelve middle-distance records. As far apart as possible in terms of class and upbringing, their rivalry burned as intense on the track as away from it. The pendulum swung between the pair of them—each breaking the other’s records, and, memorably, triumphing in each other’s events in Moscow in 1980.
