Dave Bautista is a sensitive guy. And I say that with the utmost respect. It’s just that when you look at his social media presence, the actor has always been known to tell it like it is, whether that’s about his relationship with ‘Guardians’ filmmaker James Gunn during the whole controversy in 2018 or defending his upcoming film “My Spy” against “judgmental pricks.”

The situation alluded to there happened recently on Twitter, when a journalist made the fairly obvious comparison between Bautista’s upcoming action-comedy “My Spy” and the legendary action-comedy “Kindergarten Cop,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Both films find action stars with large physiques dealing with smart-mouthed children. The juxtaposition between the two (hopefully) leading to big laughs. However, Bautista doesn’t like that comparison. Not one bit.
The original tweet, from journalist/editor Jason Perlow, said, “Why is every muscle bound action movie star compelled to repeat what @Schwarzenegger did with Kindergarten Cop? You cannot improve on this seminal classic, @TheRock, @JohnCena, @DaveBautista”
Bautista replied, “What an ignorant thing to say. Anyway, enjoy being a judgmental prick. ????????”
It’s clear from the original tweet that the writer was just commenting on the incredible amount of action stars that end up in films starring opposite children. In fact, he left out Vin Diesel, who did the exact thing in “The Pacifier.” Perhaps the term “muscle-bound action movie star” isn’t the most complimentary thing to call an actor such as Dave Bautista. However, let’s be real, Bautista, John Cena (who did this type of movie recently with “Playing with Fire”), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (“The Tooth Fairy”), and Diesel do fit in their own sort of action star category, where they usually play guys that are known for their large muscular bodies.
Perlow later replied to Bautista’s tweet, and said, “I thought you would see the humor. I apologize and my mistake if that wasn’t recognized. I was a huge fan of your Blade Runner appearance, I thought it went highly unappreciated compared to your other roles. Peace.”
Is “My Spy” a “Kindergarten Cop” retread? Obviously, the film has yet to be released, so it’s a bit too early to say. However, Bautista really doesn’t think you should compare the two. And honestly, he’s a big dude and I’m going to listen to him.
