Got a Tip?

David Lynch Thinks Trump “Could Go Down As One Of The Greatest Presidents In History”

David Lynch says what he thinks and is one of the few people in Hollywood that truly feels like he isn’t trying to bullshit you. Whether he’s talking about meditation, “Twin Peaks,” music, or whatever new project he has up his sleeve, Lynch will tell you exactly what he feels and what he’s thinking. This honesty extends to his political opinions, as well.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Lynch goes through the normal questions and answers about a variety of topics, including, of course, “Twin Peaks.” However, when the topic of conversation moves to the current US political landscape, his answers are sure to raise a few eyebrows.

First, when asked who he voted for in the most recent Presidential race in 2016, the filmmaker admits to voting for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary, but then when it came to the election, Lynch voted Libertarian, though he’s not 100% sure.

“I am not really a political person, but I really like the freedom to do what you want to do,” says the director, who is a notorious smoker in a notoriously anti-smoking state.

However, you can’t be a Hollywood figure in 2018 without giving your hot take on Donald Trump. And yes, Lynch does have a bit of a hot take. “He could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way,” says Lynch. “Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done. Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this.”

The interview does say that Lynch doesn’t necessarily think Trump is doing a great job, but does commend the businessman-turned-reality-TV-star-turned-politician for mixing things up a bit in the political arena, making the opening for another, better, outsider to come in.

While political disruption hasn’t always worked out for the best, as Europe in the last century can attest to, Lynch does give us yet another example of saying what he’s thinking, completely unfiltered. Whether or not you think he’s got the right idea is up to you.
