Tomas Alfredson Gives You All The Clues: Will Direct Swedish Remake Of 'Jönssonligan'

You can’t blame film fans for being disappointed in last year’s “The Snowman.” The film, which starred the (normally) great Michael Fassbender, is based on the incredibly popular novel but turned out to be a complete mess when it was released. One of the most surprising, and ultimately disappointing, aspects of the thriller was the talent behind the camera – director Tomas Alfredson.

Previous to “The Snowman,” Alfredson had directed “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “Let the Right One In,” which are both objectively great films. So for the director to then turn in “The Snowman” was shocking, to say the least. Well, for his next film, the director is going in a completely different direction – comedy.

According to SF Studios (via Metro), Alfredson is tackling a popular Swedish comedic franchise for a reboot of “Jönssonligan.” If you’re unfamiliar with the series, “Jönssonligan” follows a group of criminals and the hijinks they experience as they try to complete a heist. The film series was incredibly popular when it debuted in the ‘80s, running for two decades, and already has one reboot under its belt, in 2015. The films are based on an equally as popular Danish franchise.

Now it appears that Alfredson is taking his own stab at the franchise, with a new cast to boot. The new film will be headlined by star Henrik Dorsin, who is a popular Swedish comedian and actor. Joining Dorsin in the cast is Anders Johansson, a veteran comedic TV actor. The cast is rounded out by David Sundin and Hedda Stiernstedt.

The new “Jönssonligan” film is scheduled to be released in the winter of 2019, according to the press release.
