Yes, we’re excited. It’s been five long years since Vince Vaughn did anything worth paying attention to (that would be “Wedding Crashers”), but it looks like he’s linking up with one of our favorite directors which makes us doubly excited.
Deadline reports that Vaughn and David O. Russell are close to sealing a deal with Universal to team up for “Old St. Louis,” written by Russell. The film tells the “story of a traveling salesman who has been an absentee father, and how his life changes when his daughter becomes part of his life.” Vaughn would play the salesman and Chloe Moretz has already been mentioned as a possible candidate for the role of the daughter.
Russell is looking to make the picture as the followup to his highly anticipated “The Fighter,” starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams and set for release on December 10th. Early word on the project is good, though we’re a little surprised that it looks like it’s going to skip the film festival circuit altogether. As for Vaughn, he spent the summer shooting “What You Don’t Know,” an infidelity comedy by Ron Howard and co-starring Kevin James that is due for a not-so-promising January 14, 2011 release.
“Old St. Louis” is yet another film that Russell has in his ever-growing slate of projects that currently include “Pride & Prejudice & Zombies” with Natalie Portman , and the comedies “Grackle,” “Aaron & Sara” and “The Silver Lining Playbook” (that is if that last trio of pictures actually see the light of day, our guess is “Grackle” under the aegis of Russell is long gone). As for “Nailed,” his troubled film with Jessica Biel, it will be completed but unfortunately, Russell has walked away from the project.
