‘Daybreak’ Trailer: Matthew Broderick Stars In Post-Apocalyptic, Coming-Of-Age Netflix Series

High school is hard enough as it is. Throwing in the nuclear apocalypse and a brand-new “Mad Max”-esque status quo just makes being a teenager that much more difficult. At least, that’s the premise of the upcoming new Netflix series, “Daybreak.”

As seen in the first teaser for the series, “Daybreak” is built like your typical coming-of-age highschool story following a group of teens that have to deal with all the ups and downs life throws at them. Well, apparently, the big “down” that gets thrown there way is a nuclear blast on Homecoming night, ending life as they know it and ushering in this new tribalistic post-apocalyptic hellscape. Now a group of teens have to come together and fight the groups that seek to own this new word.

“Daybreak” is executive produced by Brad Peyton, who is probably best known as the filmmaker behind projects such as “San Andreas” and “Rampage.” Clearly, Peyton has an eye for action spectacle, so at least the new Netflix series has that going for it.

The cast features Matthew Broderick, Krysta Rodriguez, Colin Ford, Sophie Simnett, Austin Crute, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Cody Kearsley, Jeanté Godlock, and Gregory Kasyan.

“Daybreak” arrives on Netflix on October 24.

Here’s the synopsis:

In this post-apocalyptic, genre-bending series, the city of Glendale, California is populated by marauding gangs of jocks, gamers, the 4-H Club, and other fearsome tribes who are kicking ass as they fight to survive in the wake of a nuclear blast (on the night of Homecoming…ugh). Following an eclectic group of survivors as they navigate this strange and treacherous world, DAYBREAK is part samurai saga, part endearing coming-of-age story, and part Battle Royale.
