'Deerskin' Exclusive Clip: A Man & His Jacket Have A Conversation In Quentin Dupieux's New Film

On paper, “Deerskin” might sound like a fairly normal black comedy. The film follows a man that becomes obsessed with a fringed leather jacket. After meeting a bartender (and aspiring film editor), the man begins work on a film that will document a new goal that he has set for himself. But as you can see in our exclusive new clip from the upcoming film, directed by Quentin Dupieux, “Deerskin” is anything but normal. And that’s a great thing.

In the clip, which you can watch below, the man at the center of the film is found in conversation with that same fringed jacket that was mentioned earlier. And over the course of the discussion between a man and his outerwear, it becomes abundantly clear that the jacket has a really unique dream—to be the only jacket in the entire world.

The film stars Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”) and Adèle Haenel (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”). In addition to “Deerkskin,” filmmaker Dupieux is probably best known for films such as “Rubber,” “Wrong Cops,” and “Reality.”

In our review from last year’s Cannes, we said, “Dupieux’s work is a refreshing antidote to the dour realism exported by most French auteurs. Just as the eponymous jacket leads to Georges completing a buckskin ensemble; like that statement piece, ‘Deerskin’ is apt to be a gateway drug to odder tastes.”

Unlike many of the other films launching on VOD during the pandemic, “Deerskin” is being released tomorrow as part of Greenwich Entertainment’s virtual cinema partnership with theaters throughout the country. If you rent “Deerskin,” 50% of the proceeds will benefit local cinemas.

Here’s the synopsis:

In this black comedy of middle-aged masculinity gone awry, Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist) is a recent divorcee who becomes obsessed with a vintage fringed deerskin jacket that begins to exert an uncanny hold on him. Set in a sleepy French alpine village, he falls into the guise of an independent filmmaker and befriends a trusting bartender and aspiring editor (Adèle Haenel, Portrait of a Lady on Fire) who becomes his collaborator on a movie that will document a surprising new goal he sets himself.
