We need more “Twilight Saga: Eclipse”-approved indie-rock lite, greatest hits compilations like we need a hole in the head, but evidently Chop Shop, the authors of this milquetoast decided one disc of the usual suspects — Band of Horses, Cee-Lo, Muse, Vampire Weekend, etc., who will barely be heard in the film otherwise — was not enough.
There’s now a deluxe edition of the tweeny-aimed soundtrack and it’s not even that deluxe-y as it only features two new tracks; Bombay Bicycle Club, “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep,” and the Battles song, “The Line.”
The regular and deluxe discs comes out June 8. Congratulate yourself if you pay an extra $10 for two tracks.
Meanwhile in slightly more interesting “Twilight” music-related news, apparently composer Howard Shore, who wrote the film’s score, handpicked synth rockers Metric to write “Eclipse (All Yours)” for the last scene of the film (hey, what do you know a pop song that you actually hear in one of these films).
Makes sense, both artists are Canadians. “It was one of the most interesting experiences of my musical life so far,” singer Emily Haines told Spinner.”He wrote the whole score to build to that moment. I’m just fascinated by the scale of that as a writer. Our challenge was to express an epic euphoria, which was hard for us — we’re big on minor chords. But it’s got a big sound. I think it’s a beautiful song.”
Metric are having a pretty good summer soundtrack-wise. They’ll also be an integral musical part of Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” and no one really remembers, but they actually played themselves in Oliver Assayas’ 2004 film, “Clean” which also featured great use of Brian Eno tracks. Props to Assayas to being waaay ahead of the curve. [NME/Spinner]
