Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably already know that the relationship between Edward and Bella, aka Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, has ended due to the latter's affair with her "Snow White & The Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders. While the tabloids are continuing to try and squeeze the story for all its worth, one of the big question marks was what Summit was going to do for the press rounds of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2." Robsten, as they are known to their diehard fans, have been an integral part to the franchise's marketing, with their real life relationship one of the selling points of their romance in the films. But will they face the media spotlight once again in the wake of this highly publicized break? The answer is, duh, yes.
EW has managed to get confirmation out of Summit's President Of Worldwide Marketing, Nancy Kirkpatrick, that in no way sounds like it was written in PR speak. “While it is studio policy not to comment on the personal lives of actors, Summit is moving full steam ahead and looking forward to this November’s opening of 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.' We are confident that the film delivers amazing entertainment for our passionate fans and general audience alike,” she said in a bland statement.
But seriously, this is obvious. While Summit is likely sensitive to the feelings of the series stars — don't expect them be at the same roundtable interviews — the bottom line is, press jaunts are all stuff that's in their contract and the studio has a lucrative franchise to market. A breakup isn't going to stop that. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds, but we may get an early taste of what it might be like — Pattinson is continuing with his planned promotional duties for David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" which comes out this month.
How it affects the box office will be interesting as well, but we'd wager with audiences investing in three movies thus far, they'll be back for the finale. And by time November rolls around the well oiled PR machines of Robsten will smooth things over by giving the actor's vague statements ("We still love each other, and hope the best for him/her, but we couldn't make things work") to use in answering press before talking about the movie. Either that, or interview requests will more tightly controlled than usual.
'Breaking Dawn Part 2' arrives on November 18th.
