Doug Liman Confirms 'Edge Of Tomorrow' Sequel Script Is Done & Hopes To Begin After 'Mission: Impossible' Sequels Wrap Up

It’s been well over five years since the release of “Edge of Tomorrow” (later redubbed, “Live Die Repeat”). And though the film made a pretty penny at the box office and quickly became critically acclaimed, we still haven’t seen a sequel. Just like dog years, five years in Hollywood is more like 25, and the longer the sequel gets pushed back, the less likely it’s going to happen.

However, according to a new interview with CBM, director Doug Liman not only confirms that a script for the sequel, but even gives fans a bit of a timeline for when it might happen. As you can imagine, writing a script for the sequel has been a well-documented challenge, but finding free time in the schedules of Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt might be an even more impossible task.

As we already know, Cruise is knee-deep in not one, but two “Mission: Impossible” sequels that just begun filming. Those projects, with writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, are clearly the actor’s top priority. That means any ‘Live Die Repeat’ talk is premature until he finishes those films. And according to Liman, that’s exactly when it would be the right time to begin filming the sequel.

“I’m hoping,” said Liman. “If we’re going to do it, that would be the time.”

Obviously, no matter when Cruise’s schedule frees up, there’s still the issue of what exactly Liman expects to film. However, the filmmaker confirms that the long-awaited script for the film is indeed done.

He added, “Yeah, the script is ready.”

While it appears that, for the foreseeable future, Cruise is locked away in ‘Mission: Impossible’ jail, as he films the upcoming sequels, Liman is ready and willing to make the “Edge of Tomorrow”/“Live Die Repeat” sequel his next project. If this is indeed the case, then film fans are closer than ever to actually seeing the long-awaited follow-up. Of course, we’ve been here before, with promises of a sequel to the film, and nothing coming from it.

So, don’t blame us if we’re going to remain cautiously optimistic.
