Got a Tip?

Duncan Jones’ ‘Warcraft’ Gearing Up With Paula Patton Nabbing Lead, Colin Farrell In The Mix

Colin Farrell

Update 09/23Paul Dano, Travis Fimmel, Anson Mount and Anton Yelchin are also in the mix for “Warcraft.”

Oh right, “Warcraft“… We sort of forgot the big-screen version of the massively popular video game was in the works, with “Moon“-helmer Duncan Jones signing on to direct at the beginning of the year. Given how long this movie has been in development—Sam Raimi was once attached, before exiting—it was no sign that it would be moving forward with any speed. But it looks as though Jones has the wheels firmly turning on this, with casting getting underway.

Deadline reports that Paula Patton (“2 Guns,” “Mission: Imposssible – Ghost Protocol“) is in negotiations for a lead role, while Colin Farrell is in the mix as well, though he’s still contending with a handful of others for whatever that part may be. Penned by Charles Leavitt (“Blood Diamond,” “The Mighty“), the medieval-set film will mix gryphons, dragons, zombies, werewolves, elves, alien worlds and time travel (!?!?!?) into a single movie that will hopefully make some sense.

Production will start in January, which probably means we can add this one to the increasing blockbuster pileup of 2015. Let’s hope it will be able to stand out from the crowd.
