It’s Halloween, and film fans may be trying to figure out what movies to watch to celebrate the occasion. Well, lucky for us, some of the best filmmakers in the world have revealed their favorite horror film moments and it provides a pretty great list of what films to enjoy.
Edgar Wright, Alice Lowe, Karyn Kusama, Anna Biller, and Panos Cosmatos spoke to the Guardian recently and explain why the five moments they’ve chosen are the five scariest ever put to film. While some of the films on the list are obvious choices, especially given a certain remake that’s hitting theaters now, there are some underrated gems that may tickle your horror fancy.

Kusama and Wright choose films that most horror fans have probably seen numerous times, although it doesn’t make the choices any less relevant. Wright points to the opening of Dario Argento’s classic “Suspiria,” while Kusama thinks a scene involving a doctor and Mia Farrow from “Rosemary’s Baby” is the most frightening.
Biller, Lowe, and Cosmatos pick films that might not be the most obvious Halloween night fare, including David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” and “The Innocents.” However, it’s Cosmatos, who directed one of the best horror films of the year (or the last decade, even) with “Mandy,” that picks the film that might surprise the most people. He didn’t choose any scenes from the classic “The Exorcist.” No, his favorite horror film scene comes from the threequel, “The Exorcist III.”

While you may scratch your head at this choice, Cosmatos does make a valid reason for choosing that film, and one scene in particular. Head over to the Guardian to read all about their choices and maybe get some inspiration for some horror films to watch tonight.
