Filmmaker Edgar Wright has built a career on precision — rhythm, tone, and timing so exact it borders on musical. But when it comes to what actually gets made next, even one of the most meticulous directors in the business admits the beat isn’t always his to call. In a forthcoming interview about “The Running Man,” for The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast, the “Baby Driver” filmmaker laughed off swirling rumors of a “Coen Brothers-style” project, confirmed that a script for “Baby Driver 2” exists, and offered a candid look at the chaotic machinery behind Hollywood development.

“I didn’t hear about that,” Wright said when asked about reports that he and Simon Pegg were developing a Coen-inspired film. “Where did the Coen Brothers thing come from? I didn’t hear that.” The rumor, he noted, seems to have grown from a stray comment that took on a life of its own.
Wright also addressed the graveyard of projects that never quite made it to production. “Night Stalker is long gone,” he admitted. “But what exactly is the status of everything? Lots of things are in development, and [many] things are at a script stage. The development process is a long one, and some things go and some things don’t. People don’t always understand that not all directors are completely in control of what order things get made in.”
As for the sequel fans have been begging for, Wright confirmed the long-suspected truth: “There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists,” he said. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you—timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
Fresh off finishing his latest feature, Wright joked that his immediate plan is to “sleep for the rest of the year” before deciding what comes next. And though he’s still weighing future projects, the takeaway feels quintessentially Wright — the guy who can choreograph chaos frame by frame, yet still knows the movie gods have the final cut.
