'Game Of Thrones': Emilia Clarke Doesn't Know Who Ends Up On The Iron Throne

Emilia Clarke always speaks her mind. It’s part of her charm. During interviews, the Mother of Dragons has talked about subjects ranging from wanting to have a threesome with the Tatums to the size of her male co-stars’…well…you know. Recently, however, on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, Awards Chatter, Clarke was considerably more reserved. Still, the “Game of Thrones” star had some equally newsworthy tidbits to share with listeners.

Clarke told host Scott Feinberg that the show-runners are keeping the “Game of Thrones” ending extremely secretive. Even to the cast of the show. Though Clarke has read a version of the series finale script and wrapped up filming, for the most part, she explained that additional shooting is taking place and she doesn’t know the true ending yet. Essentially, the directors are filming a different ending for each main character competing for the iron throne.

“I think they’re filming a bunch of stuff and they’re not telling us.” Clarke told Feinberg. “I’m being serious. I’m being deadly serious. I think that they don’t even trust us…I don’t even know [who ends up on the throne]. I read what I read last year; I read those scripts. Holy moly. Took me a couple of hours to come down from that. That was like the most intense reading experience of my life…And since then, people are saying something on set and you’re just like, ‘I think they’re filming other stuff, and everyone’s being really cagey about it…there’s lots of different endings that can happen that we’re all doing. All of them. And we’re not being told which is actually what’s gonna happen.”

That’s quite exciting, to say the least. During the interview, Clarke also discusses roles she both passed and missed out on. Clarke was “desperate” for the role of the mysterious, advanced AI Ava in “Ex Machina,” which eventually went to Alicia Vikander. Though she thought it was edgy and dark and just all around awesome, she didn’t feel she could quite be robotic enough.

On the contrary, Clarke passed up on the role of Anastasia Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise because there was too much nudity. She explained that she knew how popular the books were, and she wasn’t ready to take that responsibility on. Also, a factor was that she would have had to sign up for three movies, and after giving up ten years and most of her twenties to “Game of Thrones,” Clarke doesn’t want to be contractually tied down to another franchise.
