Emmys 2020: Outstanding Comedy Series Predictions

Only legendary television series can win the Emmy for Comedy Series one year, lose it the next and then find a way to win again. The last series to do it? “Everybody Loves Raymond” in 2005. The other series to pull it off over the past 50 years? Classics such as “Murphy Brown,” “Cheers” and “All in the Family.” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” took the crown in 2018 only to see sister Amazon Prime series “Fleabag” win at the 2019 Emmys. With the latter not returning for a third season, “Maisel” could join a prestigious club. The two shows we really think are duking it out, however, are “Schitt’s Creek” and “Dead to Me.” The Christina Applegate dramedy may have only earned four nominations in its second season, but the Netflix bump is real. Can “Schitt’s Creek,” the media and sentimental favorite, really overcome it’s Pop TV and CBC origins? It has this pundit’s vote, but we’re concerned not enough of the Television Academy’s 27,000+ members have actually seen it. Will they just vote for it because they think they should? Ponder.
