Emmys 2020: Outstanding Drama Series Predictions

Baring a massive surprise, HBO’s “Succession” should have a big night at the 2020 Emmys. It could snag a number of acting honors and potentially writing and directing wins too. And, it’s likely the winner of the prestigious Drama Series trophy. It’s not 100% a lock though. “Ozark” was one of the big winners of the stay-at-home pandemic and earned just as many Emmy nods as “Succession,” 18. And, as we’ll consistently note throughout our predictions, the Netflix bump is real this season. If neither takes the crown, there is one other nominee that shouldn’t be overlooked and that’s Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian.” Before you scoff at such a suggestion let us remind you that Disney barely campaigned the Lucasfilm series from a press perspective and spent minimally for FYC ads. The series still ended up with 15 nods including editing and Guest Actor nods. While Disney hasn’t released viewership numbers, tracking services reported it had the most interest of any series since “Game of Thrones.” Sure, it would be a shock if it wins, but only if you’re not paying attention.
