Got a Tip?

Farrelly’s Nab Sean Penn, Jim Carrey & Benicio del Toro For ‘The Three Stooges’

If Production Weekly’s Twitter feed can be believed, and these guys are usually on the money, the Farrelly brothers’ “The Three Stooges,” has been cast with Sean Penn as Larry, Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio del Toro as Moe.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this report. Shooting will take place this fall and the comedy is being eyed for a 2010 release. This makes a ton more sense. Original reports pegged it for release this autumn which seemed highly unrealistic. BTW, we’re not kidding. Box-office Mojo has the ‘Stooges’ film listed for a November 20, 2009 release date which is obviously wrong.

According to THR, the screenplay was initially constructed as “four separate shorts,” but now the script has since been streamlined into a single narrative which will begin with the trio in an orphanage and will employ some ‘Benjamin Button’ like digital effects to have their faces on the babies bodies. Weird.

Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro as Stooges, who woulda thought, huh? Jim Carrey is obviously no surprise, he’s worked with the Farrellys before, but still, when the rumors originally hit we were pretty skeptical. Maybe Penn and Benicio are just long-time fantatics? We know our parents are, that’s for sure, but they’re still a good 20 years older than these guys.
