Over the years, actor Tyrese Gibson has proven a number of things about himself. First, and probably foremost, he’s a loyal member of the “Fast & Furious” crew, even resulting in an ongoing feud with Dwayne Johnson about the latter spinning off into his own franchise and leaving the “family” behind (though, in the interview below, he says that’s squashed). Secondly, Gibson has shown that he is one hell of a collector, as is witnessed in a new interview with Josh Horowitz where the actor shows off some of his prized possessions. And apparently, the latest addition to Gibson’s de facto museum is an Oscar trophy. No, Tyrese Gibson isn’t an Oscar winner. Instead, he decided to get one made for himself. Yep, you read that right.

Speaking to Horowitz, while on Zoom (as everyone does in 2020…joy), the interviewer notices quite a collection of stuff behind Gibson, including what appears to be a gold Egyptian statue and an…Oscar? The actor then grabs the trophy and tells the story of how he came to receive (not earn) the coveted gold man.
“I went online and found an exact replica of the Oscar,” explained Gibson. “Because you have to do it before you do it…This is a stand-in waiting for the real one to come. But I gotta earn it, I gotta earn it.”
While, at first glance, this might seem a bit…odd, there is a sort of “will it into existence” philosophy here that’s hard to deny. There’s the legendary story that Jim Carrey used to always say about writing a check for $1 million and keeping it in his wallet until he could actually cash it. That was seen as inspirational, right? So, in the case of Tyrese Gibson, he’s holding a fake Oscar and hoping that he can fake it until he makes it, so to speak. Though, you have to wonder if he believes he’ll get that trophy thanks to his work in the “Transformers” or “Fast & Furious” franchises? Because, with all due respect to Mr. Gibson, that seems unlikely.
Tyrese Gibson can currently be seen in the cast of Netflix’s “The Christmas Chronicles 2,” which is on the service now. Next year, he’ll be seen in “F9,” as well as the Marvel superhero feature, “Morbius.”
