Got a Tip?

Fede Alvarez To Produce ‘Texas Chainsaw’ Reboot & Direct A Horror Film Described As “‘The Shining’ Set In The White House”

Despite a bit of a creative setback with “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” Fede Alvarez has already proven himself to be a pretty great horror director with films like the 2013 “Evil Dead” remake and the breakout hit “Don’t Breathe.” Based on his work in those two films alone, it’s clear why Legendary Pictures wants to get in the Fede Alvarez business.

According to THR, Alvarez and Legendary have agreed to a first-look deal that would involve his horror-centric production company Bad Hombre, which he co-runs with Rodolfo Sayagues. And during the announcement of the deal, Bad Hombre has gone ahead and announced the first two film projects, a brand-new horror film directed by Alvarez and a long-awaited “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” reboot.

First things first, the new Alvarez film is being described as “‘The Shining’ set in the White House,” which should immediately catch the eye of horror fans. Will we see the President of the United States slowly begin to go mad and murder the First Lady and his children? That would be something, for sure. While we don’t know the title of the film, the script is written by up-and-coming scribe Joe Epstein.

The second film in the announcement is the recently rumored reboot of ‘Texas Chainsaw,’ which will be produced by Alvarez and written by another up-and-coming writer Chris Thomas Devlin. That film is said to be a reboot of the classic franchise that began in 1974 with the cult-classic horror film from writer-director Tobe Hooper. There have been numerous attempts to update the franchise, but they haven’t quite stuck.

“We are looking forward to sparking a new and meaningful relationship with a powerhouse like Legendary,” said Alvarez.

No word on when we might see these two films come to theaters, but with Alvarez’s name attached, horror fans will immediately have high hopes for both projects.
