First Image From $100 Million 3D 'Empires Of The Deep' Starring Olga Kurylenko

nullWhile most talk these days around Olga Kurylenko might center around her roles on Starz's "Magic City" and upcoming films like Terrence Malick's "To the Wonder," "Seven Psychopaths" and "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise, it might be easy to forget that way back in 2010 work started on $100 million dollar, 3D production "Empires of the Deep." A handful of set photos have been knocking around for a while, but what looks to be the first official image has now emerged.

Kurylenko is the biggest name involved with this project, which is directed by Michael French, and tells the story about a young man in an undersea kingdom who has to save his father, while encountering ferocious sea monsters, mermaids, monsters and demons. Okay, then. Certainly for Kurylenko, the experience was both baffling and exhausting. “I acted at some point with a guy who only spoke Chinese to me and I had no idea what he was saying. It had a mix of people, Americans, Europeans and Chinese… so I don’t even know what language it’s in,” she told us last year. "…And the costumes! My costume and makeup took five hours every day. I had to come in at 4:00 am and the girls would paint on me, and stick all of these things to me. I had these wings like a fish['s fins] and a tail and it was very cool. I just couldn’t understand what anybody was saying but I learned very quickly. In those five hours they were teaching me Chinese.”

No word yet on the staus of the film, or when it might begin to roll into theaters either internationally or at home. But perhaps this image is the first step of some kind of appearance or news in the coming months. [Kinopoisk]
